Facebook released the second version of its Open Graph platform with 60 partners including Branchout, TicketMaster, Pinterest and Gogobot. These partners can submit stories to the Facebook timeline with an unlimited number of verbs, adding to the current “share” and “like” actions. New verbs include “bought, want, love” and many more. Separately, Facebook has ousted Google’s Orkut in Brazil reaching 36.1M uniques, compared to Orkut’s 34.4M, according to comScore.

Google announced $10.6B in Q4 revenue (+25% y/y). Display ad revenues have doubled in size in the past quarter growing to $1.3B in Q4’11 indicating that YouTube’s revenue is growing very quickly. Paid clicks grew 17% q/q while cost per click fell 8% y/y.  Google reported 90M users of Google Plus and 54M monthly active users. 250M Android devices have been sold (50M in Q4), 11B apps downloaded and GMail has 350M users.

Twitter Promoted Tweets are reaching 3 to 5% click through rates according to CEO, Jack Dorsey. In October, the company announced 1600 advertising clients, 80% of whom have renewed contracts.

Walmart Labs released a platform for electronics manufacturers to compete for placement on Walmart store shelves. Vendors supply videos of products and consumers vote to determine the winners.

Tagged, a US based social network, announced $43M in 2011 revenue (+34% y/y).

Sulake, the parent company of social community Habbo Hotel, announced 10M monthly uniques.

Mobile

PayPal will deploy its in store payment technology in 2000 Home Depot stores by March 2012.

BillToMobile released one-click mobile web purchasing. BillToMobile partners with carriers to charge mobile purchases to mobile device plans. The company has removed PIN verification from the checkout process. The service currently caters principally to mobile gaming companies.

Apple released iBooks2 pro, a textbook creation tool. Apple has partnered with Houghton Miffiln and McGraw Hill, who have released high school textbooks for sale within the iBooks store for $15, compared to $200 paper versions. iBooks Pro competes with other textbook publishing platforms like Inkling.

Pulse, the cross-platform mobile news reader, announced 10M downloads in 2011, reaching 11M in total installed base and nearly 175,000 daily downloads.

Card.io released an SDK that scans credit cards to speed ecommerce checkout on mobile devices.

Liquidity

Home Depot has acquired RedBeacon, a local provider listings company. RedBeacon raised about $7.4M from Venrock and Mayfield.

Twitter acquired Summify, a Canadian company providing daily email digests of Twitter feeds, for an undisclosed amount.

ConstantContact, a publicly traded email marketing service provider, has acquired mobile loyalty program vendor CardStar.

Financings

Venture capitalists invested $28.4B in 3,673 deals in 2011, an increase of 22% in dollars and a 4% rise in deals over the prior year, according to PwC and NVCA.
