Google will pay Mozilla $1B over three years for default search placement in the FireFox browser, beating Microsoft and Yahoo.

Facebook has grown to within 10% of Google’s monthly unique visitor count in the US : 156M vs 139M, according to October data from comScore. In related news, Google+ grew by 2M users to 67M users in November.

Intuit released a debit card targeted to SMBs using Intuit’s GoPayment, a merchant payment processing system competing with Square and others. The card attempts to consolidate all inbound and outbound payments of an SMB into one Intuit account.

Taleo, a public SaaS applicant tracking system, announced 15% market share of all US hires.

P2P luxury car sharing service HiGear has shut down after a crime ring stole $300,000 worth of cars from the service in a coordinated attack.

Mobile

Google announced Android had activated 3.7M devices over Christmas weekend. Google is recording 700,000 phone activations daily, about 63M per quarter, twice the rate of iOS phones.

Free iOS downloads have reached 5.6M monthly according to Fiksu, or 186,000 per day, up 83% y/y.

Amazon announced 4M total Kindle sales in December (including standard Kindle and Fire), though the company hasn’t broken out figures of Fire.

Ban.jo has announced 500,000 downloads since launch six months ago.

Liquidity

VistaPrint has acquired site builder company Webs.com for $118M in cash and stock ($100M in cash).

Nuance, the company behind the world’s best voice recognition technology, has acquired Vlingo, a startup competitor for an undisclosed amount, after years of patent litigation.

eBay has acquired German company BillSafe. BillSafe builds purchase-on-invoice technology, a purchasing mechanism unique to Germany. eBay had acquired a minority stake in the company and is acquiring it to provide the service to its 15M PayPal accounts in Germany.

Oracle will acquire RightNow, a publicly traded CRM company, for $1.5B in stock.

Gogo, providers of in-flight internet, has filed documents for an IPO. The company posted $114M in the first 9 months of 2011 and a loss of $26M (-22%). The company is targeting a $100M raise. Gogo has equipped 1200 planes so far. 4% of travelers purchase the service.

GroupOn has acquired Campfire Labs.
