An insightful view of how to design for the iPad from Stanford Professor, Evan Doll (via Gizmodo).

The presentation is a refreshing look at the implications for the iPad. Optimistic about the potential to reduce complexity, it has two great insights:

  1. For most people, meeting a person with a CS degree means technical support. This statement conveys the chasm in understanding between geeks and the rest of the world.
  2. The iPad form factor social where the mobile phone is anti-social. The increases screen size lends itself to presentations, photo sharing, gaming, media watching and so on, arguing for a completely different application design than a single use mobile app. In short, device fragmentation on the iPad iPhone OS is inevitable.
