An insightful view of how to design for the iPad from Stanford Professor, Evan Doll (via Gizmodo).
The presentation is a refreshing look at the implications for the iPad. Optimistic about the potential to reduce complexity, it has two great insights:
- For most people, meeting a person with a CS degree means technical support. This statement conveys the chasm in understanding between geeks and the rest of the world.
- The iPad form factor social where the mobile phone is anti-social. The increases screen size lends itself to presentations, photo sharing, gaming, media watching and so on, arguing for a completely different application design than a single use mobile app. In short, device fragmentation on the iPad iPhone OS is inevitable.
